Garage hall for the National Roads Administration

The large-capacity garage is part of the overall planning by Bruck + Weckerle Architects for the motorway maintenance department of the Luxembourg Road Administration. The garage accommodates the trucks and equipment for the winter gritting service.

The approximately 200-metre-long row creates a clear separation of the area from the outside and also takes on the function of acoustic and visual screening from the residential buildings in the neighborhood.

The building is built on a uniform grid and consists of a repetitive steel structure that forms the primary element of order of the interior spaces. The building grid is 5.5 meters and allows a salt gritting vehicle, equipped with a snow shovel and trailer, to enter and exit easily. The majority of the street façade is closed. The building opens up completely to the side of the work roads and forms the spatial extension of the large-capacity garage with cantilevered canopies above the glazed door systems. The canopies also serve to illuminate the circulation areas in front of the building, the work roads. At the same time, the roofed zone is used for storing objects and also allows the road administration staff to work outdoors, protected from rain or direct sunlight.
