The operations building is part of the overall planning designed by Bruck + Weckerle Architekten for the motorway maintenance department of the Luxembourg road administration. It houses vehicles that are used in emergencies on motorways. The simple, symmetrical volumetry and the facade motif underline its importance and give the building an iconographic character. The all-round canopy protrudes 5.50 metres, forms a weather protection in front of the entrances and creates protected external storage areas. The soffit made of polycarbonate panels, works as a light ceiling and creates a light wreath with daylight quality around the free-standing building, since most operations take place at night. The surrounding facade motif symbolizes the hustle and bustle that prevails during operations in and around the house and is derived from the LED’s of the electronic warning boards that are stored in the building. The building is planned as an open, flexibly usable parking hall. A mezzanine floor is arranged above the parking spaces for passenger cars. The steel structure is left visible and rhythmizes the interior space.
